This is me with my publisher, Nancy Curtis of High Plains Press at the
Mountains and Plains Independent Booksellers Trade Show, Denver Sept.
25, 2009 where Staking Her Claim: Women Homesteading the West won the
award for Regional Reference.
An award given annually to a writer whose work is inspired by nature.
Judge, Bill Roorbach, said: “This is lyrical, passionate, and often surprising writing, full of love for natural Wyoming, but bigger than that somehow, reaching for ideas that encompass all the struggles that any encounter with nature is going to bring.”
"The WILLA Literary Awards, which celebrate the finest books published about the Women’s West during 2008, are sponsored by Women Writing the West. These awards are given in honor of author Willa Cather to books that meet the high standards she set decades ago."
